This month we’re thrilled to welcome Noise Upstairs legends back to the stage – Wolfscarers.
Simon Prince and Keith Jafrate formed Wolfscarers in 2010 as a tenor sax duo, and have assembled a number of different line-ups for the group since. For their upcoming set at The Noise Upstairs in Todmorden they revert to the duo format. Nurtured in their early days by The Noise Upstairs in Manchester, their improvisations swerve from gentle meditations that almost become chamber music across to full-blown shout-ups in the true tenor tradition, via, possibly, messed-up marching band funk and deconstructed jazz strut. And these days they are venturing into composition too.
“They really are in conversation and have a lot to tell….very focused….a rich and varied vocabulary at their disposal. Meditative meandering excursions are followed by heavy outbursts. Fine interplay and communication between these two! Nice work.”
– Dolf Mulder in Vital Weekly, reviewing Wolfscarers’ CD Throat, released by The Noise Upstairs.
